12 Relatable Quotes From Meredith Grey

The popular television drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” has grasped the minds of people of all ages, and it has taken over college campuses. The medical sitcom is intertwined with emotional ties between all the characters, as they refer to each other as their family due to their dedication to their jobs as surgeons. Meredith Grey especially is caught up in self-discovery, constantly struggling to find a balance between her head and her heart. “Grey’s Anatomy” uses a series of monologues by Meredith in each episode as a way to outline the show and her own personal struggles. While I may not have been watching this show long, these monologues have become so relevant to my life on the journey of self-discovery.

We could all use a little Meredith Grey advice every now and then. Here are some great quotes from the character.

1. “We have to see for ourselves. We have to make our own mistakes. We have to learn our own lessons. We have to sweep today’s possibility under tomorrow’s rug, until we can’t anymore, until we finally understand for ourselves.”

2. “Put your past behind you and start over. It’s hard to resist the chance at a new beginning, a chance to put the problems of last year to bed.”

3. “Boundaries don’t keep other people out, they fence you in. Life is messy. That’s how we’re made. So you can waste your life drawing lines, or you can live your life crossing them.”

4. “But there are some lines… that are way too dangerous to cross. Here’s what I know: if you’re willing to take the chance, the view from the other side… is spectacular.”

5. “Maybe being grateful means recognizing what you have for what it is. Appreciating small victories. Admiring the struggle it takes simply to be human.”

6. “Sometimes, our expectations sell us short. Sometimes, the expected simply pales in comparison to the unexpected.”

7. “We’re all susceptible to it, the dread and anxiety of not knowing what’s coming. It’s pointless in the end, because all the worrying, and all the making of plans for things that could, or could not happen, it only makes things worse. So walk your dog. Or take a nap. Just, whatever you do, stop worrying. Because the only cure for paranoia, is to be… here… just as you are.”

8. “We find happiness in unexpected places. We find our way back to the things that matter the most. The universe is funny that way.”

9. “The length of your recovery is determined by the extent of your injuries. And it’s not always successful. No matter how hard we work at it, some wounds might never fully heal.”

10. “It can be scary to find out you’ve been wrong about something, but we can’t be afraid to change our minds, to accept that things are different, that they’ll never be the same, for better or for worse. “

11. “There’s an end to every storm. Once all the trees have been uprooted. Once all the houses have been ripped apart. The wind will hush. The clouds will part. The rain will stop.”

12. “You have to hold on to what you want. You have to not take no for an answer and take what’s coming to you. Never give in, never give up. “

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
