Mental Illness Does Not Give The Right To Kill

To those that lost their life trying just to eat and work at Waffle House, I hope you get your justice.

So as some may or may not know, a couple months ago, a 19-year-old guy walked into Parkland high school and fired a firearm. He killed 17 people and injured some others, those people being students and staff. Another shooting happened in Tennessee, where a guy went to Waffle House in and opened fire, killing 4 and injuring a few others. What you may notice about the two, is that they at both being seen as two "mental illness" cases. Do I think that is fair?

Being diagnosed with a mental illness is something to not joke around. I see all of these people that have done something wrong rushing to say “oh, I have bad depression,” or “I’ve been through some stuff in my past and I wasn’t in the right mindset.” Let me just put my opinion out there…

The Florida school shooting was horrific, and so was the recent Waffle House shooting in Tennessee. Having a mental illness does not give you any type of go-ahead on killing someone. I mean, he literally got arrested and then flaunted that he has money in a bank account. He acts like him bringing up things that happened to him will save him from everything that he’s about to receive.

No one should have to worry about going to school and getting shot and murdered over a person who thinks they are this rich and innocent person but then wants to jump on the “I was depressed and felt neglected” bandwagon. A school should be a place that is safe, free, and happy. You go to school to learn. It’s so sad that now, you can't even go to school without fear.

I pray to God that when my daughter grows up, she would never have to face this kind of stuff.

To those that lost their life trying just to eat and work at Waffle House, I hope you get your justice. I don’t see how he thinks just because he was depressed or had mental issues, he had the right to open fire. For the simple fact that he was taken down by Secret Services in July 2017 for entering a restricted area by the White House is so insane, that I honestly believe that he should have been treated like a felon and whomever he lived with should have been told that Travis was not ever allowed to have a weapon again.

The fact that he wasn’t treated like a felon, and he was still allowed to be around weapons, is completely wrong. That shows that they weren’t serious. It gave him the chance. For his father to give him his weapons back instead of being a father and keeping them away from him for good, is pathetic. There is no reason to give him a weapon, especially when he’s supposedly got a mental illness. It is 100% wrong and not something a dad should do.

I will never get why people find excuses to kill someone. An innocent person. I don’t get what would make someone think just because you have depression, bipolar depression, anxiety, ADD, ADHD, OCD, bipolar, etc., that you can do whatever you want and think you can get away with it. I remember a few years ago, I read something about a guy committing a crime and getting off because he “didn’t know right from wrong.” Crazy? Yeah, I’d say so myself, too.

Don’t make up excuses for your sorry actions that caused others to lose their lives. You don't just accidentally kill someone, let alone pull a trigger.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
