College is a really tough time for a lot of people. For most of us, it's the first time we're out on our own and forced to deal with everyday tasks without the help of a parent like we've been helped for the past 18 years. This can get absolutely stressful, especially with the stress of school, and balance all of these new and exciting challenges.

According to a survey taken from the American College Health Association, 45% of women and 36% of men in college say they feel depressed. While college is new and fun, it may be hard to be able to find resources to battle these horrific feelings. A majority of students don't know that their campus has resources to help them through this difficult time, and some won't even use it. Some people don't get the help they need because they don't know they have resources available, but these resources are there for you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
