The “First Aid” Kit Every Premed Student Should Have Ready For This Semester

In This Article:

Student life can be quite a challenge, especially for those who chose the premed life. There will be times when everything will come at once, and you can't help but feel overwhelmed. With assignments and exams coming from all directions, it seems like the only choice a premed student has is to stay up all day and night without leaving much room for a break.

However, taking a much-needed break is essential to survive this major. Without giving yourself time to relax, you might find yourself running low on energy, which might lead you to struggle academically and even feel unhappy. So, I created this "first aid" kit that every pre-med student should use when needing to relax.

1. Face masks

Face masks don't require any extra effort. All you've got to do is unwrap one, place it on your face, and relax for 5 minutes. Afterward, you'll feel refreshed!

2. Puzzles

If you are tired of solving puzzling problems in your biology or chemistry class, all you've got to do is give yourself a 30-minute break and do some fun puzzles.

3. Ice cream date with friends.

What's better than ice cream? Eating ice cream with friends! After a difficult exam, you can reward yourself with some ice cream and hang out with a few of your favorite friends.

4. Movie night

After a crazy week, go ahead and have a movie night. This is a great way to give yourself some time to catch your breath.

5. Devotional books

Devotional books are essential for keeping you inspired. All you need is 10 minutes of your time and you're good for the day!

6. Relaxer tea

We all know pre-med majors like to stay caffeinated. However, relaxation is just as important as being alert and awake. Drinking relaxer teas might just be what you need to help you feel calm.

7. Paint by numbers

media.giphy.com

Paint by numbers is a great way to relax and get creative. A little bit of paint by numbers won't hurt anybody.

8. Catch up with family and friends.

Your schedule might be tight, but you should never sacrifice talking to your loved ones. Even if you can't meet in person, you can always FaceTime for just a few minutes.

9. Essential oil diffuser

If you're feeling a bit anxious, turning on your essential oil diffuser may help ease the tension. Plus, no one ever complains about a great smelling place.

10. Visit your favorite spots in town.

Being a pre-med major means studying in one spot for hours. A fun way to reward yourself for studying for countless hours is by visiting some of your favorite spots in town. Going out for a few hours will help you feel a lot better going back to your study cave.

11. Counseling

Sometimes, we need a little bit more help with our mental health. Counseling is always there to help you with your struggles, so don't fight it all by yourself. There is always someone willing to help you go through it.

12. Get your sleep!

Yes, you have a million things to do but sleep comes first. You can't function well if you're running low on energy.

Although being pre-med means that you have to always be on the go, it's important to give yourself time to relax. At the end of the day, taking care of yourself first will enable you to perform better academically and will leave you recharged.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
