Did you know that the bikini and the tampon were both invented by men? No? Sounds ridiculous, but it’s true. Louis Réard, a Parisian engineer, coined the name “bikini” in 1946 after Bikini Atoll, where the atomic bomb was being tested. In 1929, the modern tampon was invented by Doctor Earle Haas, who was trying to find a way to successfully mass produce a tampon. He later trademarked the name Tampax for his new brand of tampons.
It’s so strange that women these days give men all this crap about not being useful, but can you imagine a world without tampons or bikinis? That’d be a crap world, don’t you think?
The funny thing is, men have invented a ton more stuff for women than we realize.
They invented stockings (although both men and women wore those in ancient days), high heels (men wore those in olden days to state social status, but the tradition has been passed down to females), girdles (worn by both men and women at some point), and the list goes on.
The push up bra was invented in 1948 by Frederick Mellinger, who appropriately called it the "Rising Star". Let's be real, the push up bra has been a real help to ladies everywhere.
And although the curling iron's true inventor remains unknown, its first patent of its improved design was from Sir Hiram Maxim in 1866.
The bikini wax was also invented by a man, although I don't see how that could have worked. Did he use himself as a test subject? Personally, I sure hope so.
Anyhow, men can be a real pain in the arse most times, but think about all the amazing stuff they’ve managed to produce to help the average female of our society. In a world where most things are taken for granted, the men are included on that list. So when you curse the men out for charging women for tampons (very justified cursing if I do say so myself, but nonetheless...), take a second to appreciate both sides of their nature and tendencies. They have done a lot of wrong, and nowadays all of their mistakes seem to be televised everywhere, but women also need to acknowledge the good in mankind along with the bad. They have tried to help (somewhat).
