Be A Man

Be a man in Christ instead of following the world.

Be A Man
Christian Luna

Since I got to college, I have seen the way "Christian Men" behave. In a Christian University, one of the first things you hear any guy say is that they are a Christian. However, this is simply a spoken claim. A lot of the time, the guys at my school will say that they're Christians, but their actions say they are of this world and not of God. Before you can be a man in Christ, you must act like one. Guys, stop being boys of this world.

Stop Praising Evil

Men in Christ do not praise the evil of this world, but too often I see guys praising things that go against their convictions. I, myself, am guilty of this. A Christian man should not go and see the raunchy movie that is so popular. We should not be listening to songs with explicit language and references to sex and drugs. How can we say sex is for a marriage, then go and blare a song about a one-night stand through our car windows? We can't speak out of both sides of our mouth. When we say that the worlds view is not so bad, we become luke-warm. We no longer are credible when we preach about God's love.

Stop Treating Women Like Crap

Sorry guys, but God did not make you superior to women just because he gave you a penis. You are equal to women. If you are a man of God, you will see women eye to eye. Stop making jokes about women belonging in the kitchen. That won't get you anywhere. Boys do that. Men realize that women are beautiful creations from God Himself, made in His creation just like you and me. Stop using the Bible to justify your behavior. Read the whole Bible, not just the parts that support your actions. Also, stop watching porn. Not only are you sinning by lusting at a woman's body, but you are also treating women like they are a sexual trophy. They are children of God. Treat them like they are priceless, not some machine to satisfy your hormones.

Stop Swearing

Sorry guys, but you have got to stop swearing. There is an image that accompanies an explicit mouth. It is of a boy filled with anger. We are called to love. Profanity does not show love for anything of God, but a love for the world. We are called to stand out. Of course we are not perfect. We all slip up sometimes. However, continuing to swear while professing the love of God cannot work. Men will find other words to use that are not profane.

Men, we are not called to be of this world. So, we need to stop acting like it. No, we are not better than anyone else. We have just chosen to follow a narrow path. A path where we need to show the love of Christ. We must practice what we preach if we are to bring Christ into the world.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
