First of all, if you are working then you are clearly doing it wrong. Memorial Day Weekend is not only about remembering and celebrating the work of our troops, but it is also an excuse to be somewhere with water and a drink. To take the words of the Zac Brown Band, “toes in the water, ass in the sand, not a worry in the world, and a beer in your hand." Therefore, in my opinion, it is essential to follow those rules.
If you are unable to achieve the toes in the water, ass in the sand part, then that is alright. You really just need to have a drink and not worry. You are allowed to worry about work, bills, kids, summer school, whatever you worry about the next day. For Memorial Day Weekend you just need to take a break from society and enjoy the weather.
Sometimes the world works in mysterious ways, and this weekend the world blessed us with beautiful weather. I had to pleasure of enjoying this weekend at the lake with my family (yes, that includes my dogs). Lake Norman in North Carolina is a very popular spot for people to venture to for the weekend. That means that there was no reluctance of craziness on the water. From very adventurous jet skiers to wake boarders falling right in the midst of their jumping of the wake, the lake this weekend had everything.
Another perk of the craziness at Lake Norman is the speed boat race that takes place around noon on Monday. We are not really sure if it is an actual sponsored race or if it just a bunch of guys who decide to race their nice speed boats on that day, but either way it is truly a spectacle to watch. Some give up in the middle and just start riding around talking to the spectators.
Lots of other people venture to the beach or even get the opportunity to lay by the pool all day. Regardless, you have to be in the sun if you are to enjoy Memorial Day Weekend correctly. Another reason to enjoy this weekend is the actual meaning behind it. We, as Americans, are remembering the brave souls who lost their lives fighting for our country. So, if you hear someone singing “proud to be an American" or just yell “America" in the middle of the day, that is why. I propose you join in on the fun, because other than fourth of July when else do you get to randomly yell “America" without people looking at you funny?
