The meme- also known as the scourge of the internet. They plague us in phases, new trends replacing the old. As 2016 comes to a close, let's look back on the meme's of 2016- and like Harambe, may they all rest in peace.
Arthur's Fist
This meme stemmed from a childhood classic of TV character Arthur. It's literally just a picture of his clenched fist, and people write a grievance as the caption. (This one moves away from the classic Impact Font overlay) And is sometimes altered to fit the caption, as above.
Dat Boi
Does anyone really know the purpose of dat boi? He's a frog on a unicycle. His meme doesn't truly have a type- he's been used in many ways.
Joe Biden
One of my personal favorites of 2016: the Biden memes involve candid photos of United States Vice President Joe Biden, usually with a humorous caption.
Evil Kermit
We're no strangers to Kermit being featured in memes, with the "But That's None of my Business" meme being ever popular. This years Kermit Meme features the green frog we all know and love, and a version of himself (usually portrayed as his "evil" self) wearing a black robe. Normal Kermit is thinking something, and then evil Kermit will tell him the opposite.
Don't Talk to me or my Son ever Again.
A object and a smaller version of the same object featuring the phrase "don't talk to me or my son ever again" or some variation of that.
Spongegar
This Spongebob meme plays on our deep, primal instinct. He is a reaction to another event.
Harambe. (May he rest in Peace)
The gorilla who was killed at the Cincinnati zoo became a meme martyr. However, Harambe memes do not follow a typical format, or any format for that matter. They simply exist.
