Wednesday night Melissa Benoist posted an emotional video on Instagram discussing the domestic violence she endured throughout a relationship.
During the 14-minute video, she opened up about the intense beating she went through, the emotional abuse that started it off, and the pain she held in from protecting her abuser.

Benoist is currently the star of CW series, "Supergirl," and was previously a major character in FOX's, "Glee."
Benoist is currently married to her "Supergirl" costar, Chris Wood.
During her time on "Glee," Benoist and starred alongside Blake Jenner who played Ryder. The costars were love interests on and off throughout the show and solidified the relationship in reality and were married from 2015-2017.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon back in 2016, Benoist reflected on an injury she got the day after she got the part in "Supergirl." She described her torn iris and swollen eye from falling down stairs and hitting her face on a potted plant.

In her post on Instagram she explained how her turning point into realizing how bad the abuse was getting was from an injury her abuser gave her from throwing his iPhone at her face.
She proceeded to explain that they had come up with said story that she told to Jimmy Fallon as a cover for what they would tell everyone regarding what happened.
Melissa's vulnerable Instagram video can be described as nothing other than extremely brave and empowering.
At the end of her video, she shares encouraging words to other victims of domestic violence who are still being abused to not give up hope and that she is there for them.
