For the first week of college, I had to move in a week early for sorority recruitment and I had to move into a dorm known as "Berry" when I was originally assigned McConnell Residence Hall because McConnell had to undergo some extra internal changes before anyone could move in.
My parents were helping me move into Berry and we were unloading our U-Haul when my mom encountered these two women and they all began talking about me their daughter. The daughter's name was Alex, just like me, and after that, I didn't think I would ever see her again.
I was very, very wrong.
Once I was all moved in and said my goodbyes, I went up to my room and there Alex was sitting on the couch in my common room with my randomly assigned roommate for the week hanging out.
Then, as all of us went through recruitment for sororities and ended up at bid day, there was Alex again. Wearing the same tank top as me, meaning she was accepted into the same sorority as me. Shocker.
Was this girl following me?
Of course not, but after all these coincidences, she ended up being one of the greatest people to come into my life.
I quickly learned that Alex is literally the same person as me. We have the same thoughts and sometimes we'll even speak at the same time with the same words spurring out of our mouths. It's weird.
Alex gets what I'm saying even if I don't know how to put it into words and somehow she's been in almost every situation I have, so she knows how to give the best advice.
I've unfortunately learned we're not allowed to spend every moment of every day together or I might scream, but I don't think anyone could handle that amount of time with me either. So I get it.
Alex Parker, thanks for being my go-to when I need someone and for sleeping at weird hours so I know I can count on you to be awake at 3 a.m. when I'm in a panic or dropping everything to come to the hospital with me. You make stressful situations funny ones and you make me laugh so much.
Thank you for being someone I can rely on and for being the other half of me and for sometimes knowing me better than I know myself.
You're a one in a million kind of friend and I'm glad that you're my friend.
I love you so much.
I am so thankful that College of Charleston, Berry, and Sigma Kappa brought us together. I'd be lost without you.
