My brother had his first born in 2013 and I met her when she had recently hatched. She was a tiny, precious human being who slept in her pink blanket. I was obsessed. For that Christmas, her parents gave me a picture of her and I have it hung on my desk ever since.
Fast forward five years later, she quite literally knocked me over with her strong hugs. Her now long hair was in a braid and as curly as could be. She was no longer alone as she was the only girl with three younger brothers. Between her and her two oldest brothers, they covered me with hugs and kisses. They had never met me before and Luna could not possibly remember that one girl that held her nearly five years ago. Who can blame her? I can barely remember my name, let alone someone I saw here and there three years ago.
I thought that we would struggle with equally playing cars, Barbies, and playing house. I know very gender conforming thoughts, I am sorry. To my own surprise, the boys did not have a problem playing with dolls or playing house. In fact, they loved it. They showed me every cool thing they could find and even blew bubbles with me outside.
I pulled out my phone to try to sneak a picture in or attempt to have a nice picture of them which they loved. I thought I would have to bribe them, but they voluntarily participated.
After spending an afternoon together, I knew I wanted to continue to visit. They brighten my day and I love showing pictures of them because they are so photogenic! My little goobs. Being able to see their personalities shine is my favorite because they resemble so much of my brother and sister-in-law. I cannot wait to see them grow and watch all their accomplishments.
