On Friday, September 16, 2016, I received a call from iHeart Radio saying that I won a contest through Kiss 108 for two pit passes to Maroon 5--and I got to meet them to boot. I had entered my email into the contest months ago on a whim, because what could it hurt? To be honest, I completely forgot about the contest and the concert until I was reading an email with all the details of the fast approaching event. I tried to maintain my composure as I walked across my college campus while receiving this news, and I found myself in an internal state of panic-stricken excitement. I have loved Maroon 5's music since I was a kid, so I couldn't help but wonder if this was a dream or really happening. And I had never met anyone famous before--could this really be happening?!
As any other fangirl would do, I raced back to my dorm room in a state of panic and sat around waiting for my roommate to come back. As soon as she walked into the room, I took a deep breath, maintaining my composure of course, and calmly stated that we were going to see Maroon 5 and meet them before the show! We both proceeded to freak out and tell all our friends and family about the awesome strike of luck we had just come across. After briefing our support systems on the occurrences we would undergo over the next 24 hours, our room began to accumulate piles of clothing as we searched and searched for just the right outfit--after all, we were going to be meeting the band.
So, fast forward to Saturday, and the event came. We got to the venue, found the radio station van with our tickets, and the excitement began to sink in. It wasn't until we were in the elevator heading downstairs to the band's lounge, however, that the reality hit that we were actually going to be standing next to all the band members. You could say the jitters began to sink in, as well as last minute makeup and hair touch ups. We got downstairs, met some of the crew members, and finally, met the guys--who are super chill in case you were wondering. In fact, Adam Levine walked out drinking a cup of coffee and finishing up the last bite of his dinner.
It is safe to say that meeting the guys was probably the coolest thing I've ever experienced. I know, a lot of boasting, but seriously--coolest thing ever. Moral of the story--always apply to the contests on your local radio stations. You never know if you'll be the one out of hundreds or even thousands that get chosen. And let me tell you, these prizes are once in a lifetime, priceless experiences.
