So, this past Friday, December 16th, one of my best friends and myself ventured into the hustle and bustle of New York City, anxious and excited to meet Little Mix.
Now, I have to interrupt the story for a short minute and say that I originally was NOT going to be attending this meet and greet.
I hadn't thought much of it at first because 1) I didn't want to spend money, 2) I’m not the biggest fan of the city, and 3) I had listened to Little Mix only on occasion. I really liked them a lot, but I felt I wasn't a BIG enough fan to go to a meet and greet. My friend is a die hard fan, so I felt like I’d be a bit of a downer.
And so, as a result of my decision not to go, my friend made plans to go with someone else. Everything was set…until the person she was going with backed out last minute, and she turned to me again to go with her. You can imagine she was rather desperate, and because I knew how much she wanted to go, I agreed to go with her.
And I am SO happy that I did.
It was all very last minute, but it worked out.
We both decided to look as cute as we possibly could, taking time to get our hair and makeup just right because we were going to get a picture with the girl group, and if you've seen Little Mix, you know they're inhumanly flawless.
And then we were off. Now, back to where I began this story, on the car ride to the city.
The excitement waned on through even the worst parts of traffic, which were scarce, but still brutal as we were in bumper to bumper for about forty minutes. Did I mention I dislike the city?
We occupied ourselves with car jams and conversation as we reminded ourselves it would be worth it in the end. This positive mindset continued on even after we parked and saw an extensive line of fans wrapping around an entire building. Our optimism even dwindled on (barely) when we realized we had to stand outside for a hour, in freezing temperatures, and thought our toes were actually going to fall off.
They finally began escorting everyone inside Le Poisson Rouge theatre, which was beautiful, and there, right in front of us, stood a very intimate stage, with four vacant microphones in front of four empty seats, which would soon be occupied with the members of Little Mix.
The crowd was chanting “Little Mix” between screams, and there were even some foam fingers floating around in the audience.
z100 hosted the event, and introduced the girls. Then, finally, out walked Jade, Perrie, Jesy, and Leigh-Anne. It was so surreal to see them in person; sometimes, I forget that celebrities are actually real people just like us. And let me tell you, they are just as gorgeous as they are in pictures, if not more so.
We were able to see them perform three songs off their new album: Touch, Black Magic, and Shoutout to my Ex, which is constantly on the radio. All of the songs sounded impeccable, as their vocals are all astounding and mesh well together. I really appreciate when artists are able to sound just as good live as they do in a studio recording, and Little Mix definitely pulled this off.
After their performances, all members of the crowd slowly lined up to take a picture with Little Mix according to where we were on the line outside… Needless to say, we were one of the last to take a picture. I have to say, the meeting and picture taking was extremely rushed, as we each barely got a few words in.
But, I would like to point out that in the short time we got with the group, both my friend and myself received compliments from the girls of Little Mix regarding our makeup, which melted my insides a little bit. And, I mean, even though it was rushed, we still got a picture with them in the end.
So yes, it was all worth it. The long car ride, the long line, and the freezing temperatures.
Thank you to my friend, Kelly, for asking me to go not once, but twice, because it was such an amazing experience. It's funny how everything in life works out in ways you would least expect it to, and how sometimes unplanned experiences are the best ones.
Now, I definitely can say I am a big fan of a group with big voices, Little Mix (see what I did there?).
I encourage everyone to listen to their songs, I’m sure you'll find at least one you get hooked on.
