Meet the Tri Delta President

Name: Betsy Kate Nicholas
Hometown: Jackson, Mississippi
Sorority: Tri Delta

1. What is the best part about being the president of Tri Delt?
The best part of being president is just getting to see the growth of something you love and believe in. Also, getting to work with all the amazing people in Tri Delt is a benefit.

2. What is the hardest part?
Those dang emails. Haha. But in reality, the hardest part is probably just having to look at the chapter as it is now and where you want it to be in 3, 5 or 10 years. Knowing that, what you do will inevitably affect everything in the future.

3. With your job ending soon, what is your advice to the new president?
My advice to the new president would be to not take yourself too seriously. Look at the job for what it is, and don't make it your life. Listen to people and love them where they are. In the beginning, I was so sensitive to everything because I so desperately didn't want to mess up. Then, I just decided it was okay not to be perfect, and I noticed that people liked me better when I was more confident in myself. Then I was more capable to meet people where they are and keep the vision going.

4. What will you miss most about being president?
I'll miss it all so much! But I think I will miss people coming to me for whatever reason. I just love being able to talk to everyone about everything. Maybe that means I'm nosy, but I just like to help.

5. What is one thing people wouldn't know about what being president entails?
I think people don't know how much the presidents actually care and think about the betterment of the chapter. Being able to work with all the presidents has shown me how much they are all ready to just give their lives for everyone in their chapter. Yeah they all work a ton, but they have so much heart. And that's the most important thing I think. Putting others above yourself and loving everyone.

6. If you wrote a memoir, what would the title be?
The Delta Pack. (Yeah).

7. If you could pick a song to describe your time as president, what would it be?
"Flawless" by Beyonce (lol, jk). Or "Story of My Life" by One Direction ("Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain...")

8. Who is your Vice President? How do you two get along?
Chandler Clarkson is my VP! I couldn't do any part of my job without my friends and my team, but Chan is different. She was one of my assistant new member educators so we worked together two years in a row. We are a team for the books. We get along so well and sometimes she just has to tell me something won't work. She truly is the best and I don't know what I would do without her. I'll miss any excuse to ask her advice.

9. Any last remarks about your time as president, funny stories, etc?
You can wait to read my book for most of my stories, but I would just like to say being Prez was awesome. However, I can't wait to catch up on my sleep. Might take an entire year.

10. One final sentence left to say to the chapter, what would it be?
May the odds forever be in your favor, Tri Delta.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

The Unwritten Rules Of "Talking"

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
