It’s finally here! DC Comic’s "Suicide Squad" has finally hit theaters last Friday, and it’s already breaking records at the box office. The anti-hero film consists of supervillains forced to participate in a top-secret mission for the government. The squad consists of a wide-variety of villains from DC Comics. Although many fans have been dying to watch this summer blockbuster, critics were not too impress with what the film had to offer.
Many critics, who have seen early screenings of the movie, gave negative reviews for the film. However, those on the other side believe that the critics are judging the film too harshly. In fact, a petition was made by fans to shutdown Rotten Tomatoes, since much of the negative reviews were posted on the site. One of the cast members has stated, “What matters is what the fans think.”
Joel Kinnaman, who portrays Captain Rick Flag, had this to say, “We’re really proud of this film, we loved making it, everybody on the film has become really close friends and this is like a work of love and I hope the fans like it.” It’s true, the cast has become really close. They have become so close that they all got matching-tattoos of 'SKWAD,' their personal nickname for their own squad. The 'SKWAD' has most certainly proven to have some of the best chemistry amongst eachother. One can immediately tell that they enjoy being within each other’s presence.
Speaking of the 'SKWAD,' how about we introduce the batch of supervillains within "Suicide Squad"?
Deadshot
Deadshot, also known as Floyd Lawton, is a hired assassin. His extraordinary marksmanship has earned him the title as the world’s most accurate (and not to mention deadliest) marksman. He is most notably known to be an adversary to Batman. The deadly marksman also has a soft spot when it comes to his family. Deadshot will be portrayed by Will Smith.
Harley Quinn
Harley Quinn, or Harleen Quinzel, is known as the wacky, hilarious, and all-around insane girlfriend to the Joker. Her history with the Joker usually differs, but she is usually known to be the Joker’s psychologist who either falls in love with him or is psychologically tortured by him. Either way, Harley, blinded by love, always ends up working with the Joker. She can be violent, clueless, crazy, hilarious, or insane. She also has an obsession with her "Puddin." Harley Quinn will be portrayed by Margot Robbie.
Captain Boomerang
Captain Boomerang, known as George “Digger” Harkness, is pretty much what his name implies. He uses specially-made boomerangs that were altered to create dangerous effects. These boomerangs were most notably utilized on the Flash, his main adversary. Captain Boomerang will be portrayed by Jai Courtney.
Killer Croc
Part-crocodile and part-human, Killer Croc, or Waylon Jones, has incredible strength like no other. Born with a birth-defect, he began becoming more like a crocodile through experimentation. Killer Croc has heightened senses and uncanny strength, but he lacks in intelligence. He’s usually angry and hungry. He is known as an adversary of Batman. Killer Croc will be portrayed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
El Diablo
Chato Santana, El Diablo’s real name, used to be an ex-criminal. He has the power of pyrokinesis. His power allows him to create fire and control it too. El Diablo also carries guilt for past crimes that he committed. In fact, he had to go through torture to assure his loyalty with the Suicide Squad. El Diablo will be portrayed by Jay Hernandez.
Slipknot
Slipknot, known as Christopher Weiss, is a lesser known villain. His specialty consists of special unbreakable ropes that he made himself. He uses his ropes to violently takedown anyone who stands in his way. Most notably known as Firestorm’s adversary, there is still much to learn about him. Slipknot will be portrayed by Adam Beach.
Enchantress
Enchantress, or June Moone, can either be a freelance artist with an interest in parapsychology or a heavily unstable witch. June Moone is a kind-hearted soul, but when she says "enchantress," she transforms into a crazy evil witch called "Enchantress." Once "Enchantress" is said again, she returns to being June Moone once again. She has played on both the good and bad sides, but what is she like in Suicide Squad? Well, you will just have to watch the movie to find out. Enchantress will be portrayed by Cara Delevingne.
Rick Flag
Rick Flag is an elite soldier who works with the government on different projects. Although he is known to have worked with Task Force X (Suicide Squad), he is not a villain. Instead, he simply leads the team to their destination and makes sure that everything goes smoothly. He assures that everyone stays in line and follows orders. He is a leader and has built an extensive record for himself. Rick Flag will be portrayed by Joel Kinnaman.
Katana
Tatsu Yamashiro, or more notably known as Katana, is a sword-wielding heroine. Yes, you heard correct. Katana is actually a heroine and not a villain. She joins the Suicide Squad as Rick Flag’s bodyguard. Besides being proficient at martial arts, stealth, and acrobatics, Katana carries her "Soultaker Sword," which stores the souls of those it slays. The Japanese heroine has also suffered the traumatic loss of her family, yet continues to stay strong and fight for justice. Her distressing past pushes her to continue helping others in need. Katana will be portrayed by Karen Fukuhara.
Amanda Waller
Although she is not technically a part of the squad, she did assemble the squad of bad guys. Amanda Waller is a tough nut to crack. She is not to play with or to take lightly. Her words are written in stone and she does not play around. Her goal is to get the job done quietly and successfully. Nothing more, nothing less. Amanda Waller will be portrayed by Viola Davis.
Joker
Again, not part of the Suicide Squad, but "Mr. J." is probably one of the best known criminal psychopaths ever. The Joker is generally known to be Batman’s evilest adversary. His clown features give off nightmares, yet allows him to add humor to his twisted attacks. Not much can be said about his role in Suicide Squad. The Joker still has a lot of surprises in store for us in the film. The Joker will be played by Jared Leto.
Overall, the movie looks to be an exciting addition for the DC Extended Universe. "Suicide Squad" is playing in theaters near you, so grab some friends and go watch the insanity unfold as you meet the 'SWKAD.'
