Meet The 'New Chipotle'

The cheaper the better, that's my motto. Between student loans and living expenses, us college students don't have a lot of extra spending money. Being on a tight budget, it's so much easier to resort to the sub-standard value meals when eating out. Honestly, who wants to spend $10 on some fancy-schmancy organic meal when there's a perfectly delicious burrito for waaayyy cheaper? Unfortunately, as much as we love them (taco salads totally count as being healthy, it's a SALAD after all), these meals aren't always the healthiest option. But WAIT! Could there be a solution? A restaurant that could solve all your problems? Could there be a way to eat healthy and not break the bank to do it?!

Enter Sweetgreen, the affordable restaurant with countless healthy options. Founded by college students from Georgetown University in 2007, Sweetgreen caters to busy people on a budget. The students were frustrated with the lack of reasonably-priced nutritious food available to the public.Their mission was, and is, simple: to create a restaurant where healthy food is not only affordable, but appealing as well. Dubbed by CNN as the 'Next Chipotle' due to its "fast casual" atmosphere and assembly-line style, Sweetgreen puts a fresh new twist on salad. You can pick from their signature menu, their seasonal menu, or create your very own salad bowl. They've taken the boring salad stereotype and turned it completely upside down.

As if this already isn't great enough, it gets better! Not only is Sweetgreen healthy for you, but it's healthy for the environment too. Sweetgreen is all about sustainability. Their motto is "Passion x Purpose," and this environmental passion is evident in everything from their building materials to the food served in eco-friendly bowls. Sweetgreen prepares all of their organic food in their own kitchen, supports the community by working with local farmers, and has recycling and composting services available in the store. Basically, they're the whole package (if only we could say the same for college boys *sigh*).

This restaurant is perfect. Not only do they have healthy food that actually tastes good, but they give so much back to the environment. It would practically be a crime NOT to eat there. Sadly, for now, Sweetgreen is mainly located on the East Coast, but they are looking to expand in the future. Hopefully, it won't be long before Sweetgreen plants its roots in a location near you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
