Meet The Freshman Student Government

Meet the candidates could be the most fun game show.

Once again it is that time of the school year where you get to vote friends into office and hope they make the best contribution to your class that anyone could. This year we had a great group of students running, and while many might know who the “winners” are, I thought it would be great to let everyone get to know a little bit about everyone who is and is going to be involved in the political system of Rosemont.

In order of leadership:

Julie Capece: President

Julie is a Psychology major with a lot of charisma and positive energy. She set out early to learn the names of all the people in the class of 2020 and she met that goal with efficiency and kindness. Julie gave a speech that touched on how she realized she was meant to be a leader when she lost for Treasurer three times. She firmly believes in healthier dining options and more fun weekend excursions for the freshman class. She strives to create more leaders and believes that we should all work together to achieve a goal. Three words to describe her: ambitious, confident, and motivated.

Grant Huston: Vice President

Grant is a freshman who spent six years at a military naval academy. He oversaw 30 cadets as the Company Commander. He is a commuter, but he might as well be living on campus with the amount of time he spends here. He firmly believes in unity in a community, and would like to see the end of labels within the social hierarchy. He thinks all people should be able to come together and should be able to talk to each other without worry of judgment. Three words to describe him: Commitment in values.

Nia Reeb: Vice President

Nia is a History major who is as full of energy and spunk as we all wish we could be. She is easily the life of the party, but she strives to one day be seated with the best on the Supreme Court. She has the history of running for president before, and is always actively committed to the schools she is a part of. She hopes to be able to do as much as she can to help the student body here at Rosemont. Three words to describe her: determined, outgoing, and experienced.

Cole Huston: Secretary

Cole is a commuter student and yes he is Grant’s twin. He is a Philosophy major who is interested in one day attending law school. He also spent six years at the military academy along with his brother, where he also oversaw 30 cadets as their leader. He hopes to be able to give back to the community in anyway he can and hopes that he can make sure everyone enjoys their time here at Rosemont. Three words to describe him: discipline, honor, and integrity.

Jack Crozier: Secretary

Jack is a Political Science major who is actively involved on campus. Along with running for Student Government he is a part of Thorn, Jest and Gesture, and cross country as well. He is beginning by running for secretary and hopes to one day work his way up to president by senior year. He might not have a main stance, but he has no problem being the person anyone can lean on; while also possibly finding out more about himself along the way. Three words to describe him: hard-working, friendly and motivational.

Congrats to the winners of the election Thursday: Julie-President, Grant-Vice President, and Cole-Secretary. They all worked exceptionally hard and campaigned to the best of their abilities! Nia and Jack have also reported that they will be running again come next election and are still going to be as involved as possible with SGA.

There are still opportunities to get involved as the spot of Treasurer has yet to be filled! Check your Rosemont email if interested!

Here’s to a great year for all of the Class of 2020 students and their Student Government team!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
