Meet OU's Editor-in-Chief: Julia Bauer
Julia Bauer

I am so excited to let everyone get to know more about our incredible Editor-in-Chief for Odyssey's University of Oklahoma community. Julia Bauer is from Houston, TX, and she is currently a senior majoring in public relations and minoring in enterprise studies and French.

I might be a little biased, but I think that Julia is definitely the best Editor-in-Chief. OU's community is extremely lucky to have her as a leader. I have only known her for about a year now, but she has already taught me so much. She has helped me to grow my skills as a Content Creator and now a Contributing Editor. I can't thank her enough for everything that she has done for me. I know I can speak for my whole team when I say that she will definitely be missed when she graduates this year.

Check out this interview and read all of the awesome things that Julia had to say!

How long have you been a part of the Odyssey?

"I first joined Odyssey the summer before my sophomore year of college, and I've loved being apart of the OU team! I began as a Content Creator, then became a Social Media Director and am now the Editor-in-Chief."

Why did you decide to write for Odyssey?

"I decided to start writing for Odyssey because I had always loved writing, but I wanted to do it on a platform that had an audience, and Odyssey gave me exactly that! They worked with me on how to improve my writing, and I feel as if I am a stronger writer because of my involvement with this company."

What is your favorite thing about Odyssey as a whole?

"The thing about Odyssey that I love the most is the way it allows so many individuals to have their voice heard. Thousands of people now have the opportunity to share their opinions and ideas with millions of readers, and they are allowed to express themselves in any way they want to, which is awesome."

What are your favorite topics to write about and why?

"I love writing about things that are both fun and serious. I don't usually write about politics or anything in the news, and focus more on entertainment and fun pieces. They allow me to really get creative with what I'm writing about, and since Odyssey lets you write about whatever you want, it lets me really brainstorm and think out of the box."

What responsibilities do you have as Editor-in-Chief for OU's Odyssey community?

"As Editor-in-Chief for OU, I am responsible for working with all of the Content Creators, editing their articles, coaching them to become stronger writers and encouraging them all to do their best with their work. I absolutely love it!"

What have you learned through your time as OU's Editor-in-Chief?

"I have learned so much by being Editor-in-Chief. I have improved my writing and editing skills immensely, and I have been able to meet some amazing people through this company. I have gotten the chance to see how a real editorial company works, and I'm so glad I joined two years ago."

What responsibilities did you have as an intern for Odyssey this summer in New York City?

"While interning with Odyssey this summer, I helped to start Odyssey teams at other locations, mainly college campuses. I worked with individuals from the school to help them start one on their campus, and then managed them for a short time as they got going. I also assisted on various other projects, and worked on social media teams. It was so fun!"

What was your favorite part about being an intern for Odyssey?

"Besides being in New York City for the summer, my favorite part about interning for Odyssey was getting to work with all of the amazing people at the company. Everyone was so friendly and encouraging, and they inspired me everyday to strive towards my goals. I couldn't have asked for a better work environment, and it's all because of the work culture!"

What is one piece of advice you would give students that are just now starting their time as a public relations major?

"One piece of advice I would give to students that are just now starting their time as a public relations major is to just really learn as much as you can. I've learned so many things in the classroom that I've used in internships and interviews! Also, taking advantage of the resources your college offers you is essential. Many professors have already worked at major companies and can not only give you real life work advice, but also connect you to some people who could help advance your career."

After you graduate, what would be your dream job?

"After graduating, I'm planning on moving back to New York City to pursue a career in either the fashion/entertainment side of the public relations industry or work in the editorial industry. I love both fields, and I'm so excited for what lies ahead! My dream job would be to work at a fashion magazine or do public relations for a fashion designer, so let's see if I can make it happen!"

Thank you for letting me interview you Julia, and thank you for being an incredible leader and Editor-in-Chief for OU's Odyssey community.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
