I sit alone in a park.
One baby with its mother
And photographer-
A stroller covered with jackets,
One red, one green
A woman with a shawl-like sweater
"Walks" her tiny French bulldog.
It looks around in intrigue.
Another family
(Mom and Dad,
At least three children, all daughters)
Holds their own photoshoot.
Their belongings fill a nearby bench.
They speak of a past time in Charlotte.
Two of the girls-
They each hold a babydoll.
A couple, a few years older than me,
Walk from one side of the park to the next,
Using it as a bypass.
The monument in the center
(of course phallic-like)
Acts as a sundial, with its distinct shadow.
The breeze brushes my face
And scuffles through the tree limbs.
Two toddler brothers
Run around the monument, making silly noises.
From where I sit,
I can see the back of
Washington's statue.
He has a cane
And skinny calves.
