Recently, federal judge James Robart, citing that the travel ban adversely affected residents in areas of employment, education, and freedom to travel, halted the enforcement of Trump's order by ruling in a lawsuit brought by the attorneys generals of Minnesota and Washington state.
As expected, he faced backlash from Trump's supporters and was belittled by Trump himself (on Twitter).
Well, this "so-called" judge was unanimously confirmed by the US senate in 2004. Certainty that should raise the standards for confirming Trump's pick Neil Gorsuch for Supreme Court.
Here are some background information about judge Robart and what he stands for:
He's a big supporter of Black Lives Matter:
In a video positing on the federal court's website, Robart announced "black lives matter" while citing FBI statistics: "police shootings resulting in deaths involved 41% black people, despite being only 20% of the population living in those cities"
He had spent his professional life representing the disadvantaged and the refugees:
Before he was nominated by then-President George W. Bush, Robart did pro-bono legal work with refugees and the disadvantaged through his work with Evergreen Legal Services.
He loves kids:
Not only did he work extensively with the Children's Home society, he is also the former president and trustee of the Seattle Children's Home, an organization that handles mental health needs for children and their families in the Washington state.
Courtroom behavior: treated people with dignity and respect:
"I was introduced to people who in many times felt that the legal system was stacked against them or was unfair," he said. "And one of the things, I think, that my time there helped accomplish was to show them that the legal system was set up for their benefit and that it could be, if properly used, an opportunity for them to seek redress if they had been wronged."[i]
