You see it everywhere. The news is constantly airing the latest travesty. What happened in Orlando, from "The Voice" singer's death, the nightclub shooting, and the Disney alligator, horrible things are happening. My thoughts and prayers are with every single person involved.
The media is creating a horrible thing that we all have to deal with. When was the last time we heard something positive on the news? I'm not saying we should ignore the major things going on around us. But, we are ignoring the positive things...thanks to the media.
Here are things to think about:
1. The Media Uses Fear To Make Money
I think it is so sad that the media uses our fear to make money. How does the media make money? They get something trending on social media. If everyone is talking about something, then all of the attention is on the news outlets (CNN, Fox News, ect.). This makes them even more money. It's a system that works. They're not interested in "bringing you the new story". They're interested in creating fear. People talk about what they're afraid of. Make people scared means make money.
2. Lawmakers Can Try To Do Something
I think the constant negative input into society is destroying us. My dad always says, "You are who you hang around." And that is absolutely true in this case, too. If we are always getting a daily dose of negative vibes, we will live negative lives. If I were in legislation, I would propose a 2:1 ratio. For every one negative story, the news must air two positive stories.
This would solve so many morale issues. The country would not be in such a political mess! We've created a society that is offended by everything. In fact, that statement probably offended someone.
P.S. My dad is amazing. He is also very positive... He also doesn't watch the news.
3. Watch Out For Facebook Clickbait
I'ver seen so many fake news stories on social media with people sharing them like crazy! And with those, people go on rants about how mad they are. But, the entire thing is false! We should do our research before instantly believing it. These sites are making a lot of money off of being completely satire.
4. An Avenue For Attention
If someone is crazy enough to commit such horrible acts, and they know they will be known for it, they will do it! The media has created an easy way to become infamous. And people who are willing to do something crazy, will be eager to do it if they know they will be known for it.
5. Start Treating Others With Respect
"They're not like me, so I have a problem with them." What happened to trying to coexist? Or using it as an opportunity to grow and learn something new?
No thanks. We just want to be offended by it.
