There is no clear cut meaning of life. The purpose of each individual life is decided by whoever is living it. If your purpose in life is to save people as a doctor or a firefighter then that is an equally good answer as someone who wants to protect citizens as a police officer or a soldier. Unless you are an evil person, there is no right or wrong answer nor is any answer greater than another as long as they are both meaningful and productive. On the micro-level, the meaning of life is all encompassing and is determined by the individual. On the macro-level, the is no meaning to life. Whether everything spontaneous dies or if we thrive and colonize the entire universe, it does not matter. At the end of the day, we will all die or discover the key to immortality in which case we will scurry around the cosmos the same way cockroaches skitter around our houses. The only goals that every creature is supposed to be born with are survival and to create new life. As depressing as it is, Nihilism is the most plausible explanation for the existence of all life.
There is one other possible solution. If we can somehow find how to exploit the unknown secrets of the universe and find ways to break scientific laws then we can ascend to a higher level of consciousness. If we can find ways to explore unknown dimensions then it is possible for space, time, matter, and energy to abide by our will. It is in my opinion that at this point we will no longer be mere cockroaches; we will ascend to the rank of gods. We live in a universe in which nothing is infinite. If we could find a way to become infinite and all knowing creatures in a finite world then we would possess limitless power. This could be a possible solution as to why life came into existence, the universe is waiting for a new god.
Could it be possible that nothing is impossible? If so, then the purpose of life is to become infinite in every way and ascend the capacity of a god. If not, then there is no underlying reason why life exists and we must instead focus on the goals of our individual lives. I am not banking on becoming a god anytime soon so my life is mainly geared towards the latter. At this point in our knowledge, blissful ignorance is the only choice we have.
