Our favorite cliquey cult classic has both coined and commemorated some of today’s greatest pop culture artifacts for future audiences to appreciate for years to come. Not to mention that this glimpse into girl world is also one of our last decent memories of our beloved LiLo. In honor of this joyous event I have crafted a list of a few terms and concepts that Mean Girls has mainstreamed into pure gold. The definitions are courtesy of our friends at UrbanDictionary.com.
Hump Day -The middle of a work week (Wednesday); used in the context of climbing a proverbial hill to get through a tough week.
Pink Wednesdays
3- way phone call attack- When two people call one person but the third person doesn't know the second person is on the phone.
New vocab terminology:
Grool- great and cool put together
Fetch- adjective that describes something 'cool', 'awesome', 'hot', or 'chic'. Used various times by Gretchen Wieners in the 2004 movie Mean Girls.
Girl World Halloween costumes - "In Girl World, Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything else about it." - Mean Girls
Army pants and flip flops- Enough said.
But what is the most important thing this decade old classic will leave behind? Admired comedian Tina Fey modeled the screen play for Mean Girls after a self help book for the parents of young girls titled Queen Bees & Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends & Other Realities of Adolescence. Fey channeled her comical genius to create a work of subversive humor that highlights what it is like to be a high school girl in today's mean-girl ridden society. It is important to remember that these exaggerated, humorous instances are some young women's realities.
Props to you Tina Fey for creating such a ludicrous masterpiece that has exposed the forbidden world of the mean girl.
