Wednesday, October 3rd.
A day of infamy for the fans of the Paramount Pictures film, Mean Girls. Not only on Wednesday's do we wear pink, but it's also the day Aaron Samuels asked Cady Herron what day it was, thus launching their relationship.
For those who have never seen the film, here is a quick rundown.
Teenage Cady Heron was home-schooled in Africa by her scientist parents.
When her family moves to the suburbs of Illinois, Cady finally gets to experience public school and gets a quick primer on the cruel, tacit laws of popularity that divide her fellow students into tightly knit cliques.
She unwittingly finds herself in the good graces of an elite group of cool students dubbed "The Plastics," but Cady soon realizes how her shallow group of new friends earned this nickname.
With a thick plot and major star power including SNL favorites Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, childhood star Lindsay Lohan, the versatile Amanda Seyfried, and Notebook favorite, Rachel McAdams, Mean Girls has it's deck stacked.
But as with any movie franchise, there are people who are die-hard fans; then, there are those that are adamant that it's not worth the hype. Mean Girls is no exception.
So, the question is:
Is this cult classic fetch or far-fetched?
In a poll conducted across 2 social media platforms and a group message, the majority says that Mean Girls is, in fact, worth the hype and excitement. When prompted, those who love the movie were ready with reasons why it's a must-watch movie.
"The sass, the fashion, the jungle references. Yes, please."
"I feel like at this point it's a right of passage to watch it. I grew up with the movie and can quote almost every word."
"The limit of times you can watch it does not exist."
"It's a movie everyone should see because culture and life. It's funny and cute. Not to mention, Johnathan B is hot, and the movie is fetch."
The accolades go on from there, but every rose has its thorn. The movie also has its non-supporters, and they have some things to say about the movie, too.
"It sends a bad message to our youth."
"To be honest, it just drives me nuts that that's actually how some people act."
"I just never found it funny, and at this point, it's very overplayed."
Out of 33 people who contributed to the poll, the ratio of supporters to non-supporters is 26:7. It is clear that the masses love the film, but there are little sprinkles of dislike on this sundae.
So which one are you? Do you wear pink on Wednesday's, or do you stay far away from the Northshore High School anarchy?
