A Mean Girls' Explanation Of College

They don't tell you these things in high school.

College is a whole new world for most people, especially if they're coming from a small town where there are many social rules or trends. In high school, there are unspoken standards that some of us feel we have to live up to, and these standards are mostly nonexistent in college. Instead of feeling personally victimized by your new college life, Regina and friends are here to tell you what you need to know.

1. No one cares if you eat alone. Literally no one.

In high school, you all basically have the same schedule and daily routine. In college, everyone lives a completely different life from the next person over. That being said, no one is going to judge you if you're running late or just want some time alone and need to eat lunch at a table by yourself. Honestly, people are too focused on their own hectic lives to even pay attention to you over in the corner. So no worries.

2. The freshman 15 is scary super real

But it's okay because it happens to literally everyone. Don't sweat it. You'll lose it again over Christmas break.

3. Your mom becomes your best friend

If you didn't talk to you r mom before, you will now. I think I call my mom three times a day just to tell her about my class or about how I slept.

4. Save your makeup and cute clothes

I haven't worn anything other than a t-shirt to class this year. In high school, I woke up early and did a full face of makeup and straightened hair every day. Now, I'm lucky if I can even get some mascara on. Your professors don't care how pretty you are- they care if you get to class on time. Besides, you'll make friends regardless of how good you luck.

5. It's fun to go to the library

You'll most likely end up seeing all of your friends and spend 4 hours gossiping instead of writing your paper. But in reality, it's also cool to make good grades. So go. Do your work.

6. Having a roommate feels like being married.

Sometimes this is good, sometimes it's bad. You either end up in the honeymoon phase and live together again the next year, or you end up divorced and never speaking again.

7. 9 AM's are just as bad as 8 AM's, and 8 AM's are way worse than you think.

Yeah, you got to school at 8:15 in high school. So what? Here's what. You'll be 5x more busy in college and get 5x less sleep than ever before. Don't set yourself up for failure.

8. You'll meet people that you love so much that you won't remember what life was like before them.

I've met some girls that I know will be in my wedding. I cried on the third day of Thanksgiving break because I missed them so much.

9. Outfit repeating is normal and acceptable.

Face it. There are too many semi-formals, formals, date parties, meetings and football games to have a new dress for everything.

10. Mean girls aren't cool girls.

The girls who get the votes for homecoming queen and the girls who get the nominations for student government positions are the nice girls. You get way further in life by actually reaching out and making friends instead of tearing people down so you can climb higher.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

College is a great place to meet people, especially through Greek life. If you look closely at sororities, you'll quickly see there are many different types of girls you will meet.

1. The Legacy.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
