"Me too."

The most embarrassing thing I have ever said.

"Me too."
Laura Merritt

This is probably the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me. I thought it might be fun to share it on the internet because why not. I am currently in the airport about to head home and this cute little girl said hi to me and continued to tell me how she was so excited/nervous for the flight. I think she is about 5 years old. This reminded me of when I was in 1st grade.

Let me set the scene. I went to a private Christian school in 1st grade. I had to wear a uniform, go to chapel, the whole shebang. When I was in 1st grade it was all about status, who had the most friends. I did not have high status in 1st grade. I had 3 friends I think. Well, there was this girl, we all know this girl, super "popular," long brown hair, has a group of minions following her around. You have no idea why, but your 1st grade self really wants to be friends with her. She is just cool.

In my 1st grade class, that person was Hannah. To this day, every time I think about her I still see this tall 1st grader looking down on me with her arms crossed. She had a minion too, her name was Kayla. Now, I really wanted to be friends with Hannah and Kayla. They came up to me one day and were talking to me. I thought "this is it, I will be in their little group, it's gonna be great." That was not the case. Hannah asked me why I thought that Kayla and she were best friends, and I said I didn't know. Why would I know? Well, they were best friends since birth and both of their parents were divorced, she so kindly informed me.

Hannah turned to me squinted her eyes and asked: "do you even know what divorce is?" She talked to me like I was a baby. I hate being talked down to. Luckily, I did know what divorce was. Not because my parents were divorced (my parents have been happily married for 37 years), but because I had just seen parent trap, the one with Lindsay Lohan. The next thing that came out of my mouth is the MOST EMBARRASSING thing that I have ever said. I said, "yeah I do know what divorce is because my parents are divorced." You might want to pick your jaw up off the floor. Then, it was just word vomit. I knew it was wrong, but I wanted to be in Hannah's group so bad. So, I just started saying that I had two bedrooms and talking about all the things that I have heard them talk about.

You know what happened next? I didn't even get into their group, Hannah just got mad because she thought I had something in common with her. I also got in an immense amount of trouble. So, so much trouble. To this day, this story is my most embarrassing because I caused it myself. I get embarrassed just thinking about it. I hope you enjoyed this story and remember, lying isn't always worth it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
