I spent the beginning of my summer studying abroad in Stockholm, Sweden--and it was amazing. Like most college students (and Americans), I wanted some McDonalds.
As a vegetarian, I went in and expected to to get my usual--an egg McMuffin with no sausage and a hashbrown. When I saw on the menu the thing I have been dreaming of since I stopped eating meat four years ago-A fast food veggie burger. If I want a veggie burger that I do not have to make myself I have to go out to a restaurant, get seated, and pay way too much for a patty made out of beans and corn. But not with the McVegan.
In Stockholm I could just go up to any McDonalds and have a veggie burger in my hands in five minutes or less. It was all I have ever (for the past four years) wanted. It was delicious too for how much it was ($9 SEK or about $5). My only complaint was that there was no cheese on it. However if I had read the menu a little bit more I would have seen that they also sold a veggie clubhouse which is the same as a McVegan only with cheese added on.
What I want is for the McDonalds in the United States to step it up.
Vegetarian and vegans in the US deserve fast food that is not breakfast food too. I will be the first to admit that yes, this is not that deep. However, I still want vegetarian food from the comfort of my car though and Swedish Mcdonalds delivered just that. I know that if the McVegan does does come to the United States it will be on the coasts first (and will take roughly forever to reach the midwest.) But a girl can still dream, and right now I am dreaming of the McVegan.
