You Should Care What Others Think

Not caring and being rude are two different things

You Should Care What Others Think
Patheos

Hello. My name is Michael Jones and I am a person that says, "I don't care what other people think." I've been this way for a long time. I say what I want, to who I want, when I want, and don't care about it. If people don't like it, I don't care because that's just how I am, and how I am is fine!

Actually, it's not.

This mindset of "I don't care what other people think," is one that is very prevalent in our culture today. If you google, "People that do not care what other people think," you get numerous lists, articles, blog posts, and what not about why you should not care what others think about you and your actions.

Now I will admit, when it come to certain personal traits and characteristics, no you should not care what others think. If someone thinks you're fat, ugly, ignorant, or any other insulting thing they can think, then let them think that. As long as you are happy with yourself and aren't harming others, then why care what another person thinks?

But sometimes a line is crossed. The mindset of, "I don't care what other people think," becomes "I don't care what other people think, therefore I'm going to say and do whatever I want and I don't care if I hurt someone." That's where not caring about what others think becomes dangerous. Just because the new waitress at the restaurant you frequent is a little slow her first week doesn't mean that you should tell her that. Just because your coworker has an ugly haircut doesn't mean that you should tell them that. Just because something may be true about that person doesn't mean you need to tell them.

What happens when someone acts this way is that they are intentionally hurting someone else. When a persons intentionally hurts people over and over again, others see it and it makes them not want to be around that person. What's also common is that the person doing the hurting often doesn't seem to grasp the fact that they are hurting someone. When others stop wanting to be around them, they find themselves with very few people in their lives, or maybe no people at all. They end up friendless, lonely, and bitter. They end up not just hurting others, but hurting themselves

So if you are a person that has no friends, very few friends, feels unhappy, bitter, or are always wondering why people leave your life? Maybe look at how you are treating them. You may also ask, "What can I do?" The answer is simple:

Kindness

Just be kind to others. Instead of not caring about what others think, you should care about how they feel. Kindness is a cheap form of brightening someone's life, because more than likely you do not know that person or their story. Do you really have the privilege of telling them what you think?

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
