At UFC 231 the current UFC Featherweight Champion Max "Blessed" Holloway put on a performance of the year as he completely picked apart the #1 ranked featherweight in the division Brian "T-City" Ortega. The anticipation for the main event was like no other as the world just got done watching the Co-main event when the #1 ranked Flyweight Valentina Shevchenko defeated the #1 ranked strawweight to become the first ever UFC Flyweight Champion. When the Main Event started from the start of the bell Max "Blessed" Holloway began to go to work.
The #1 ranked Featherweight Brian Ortega was being outstruck completely as we began to see the damage on his face building early. The combinations being thrown by the champion were landing and they were 4 to 5 punch combinations as he made it look effortless. At the end of the 3rd round, the champ made it a point to say that the 4th round would be it. Max Holloway was not lying as he turned up the pace tremendously. At this point, by the end of the 4th round the damage was done and the doctor stopped the fight due to injuries on Brian "T-City" Ortega's face.
The Champ "Blessed" Holloway also broke a few records on that night as he was also awarded Fight of The Night and Performance of The Night bonuses. Max Holloway broke the record of landing the most significant strikes in one bout with 290 strikes. He broke the record for the most significant strikes landed in a round which was 134 strikes and he also broke the record for the most wins in the history of the featherweight division when he got his 15th after defeating Brian Ortega.
After a night like that many have been wondering what is next for Max Holloway as many are holding him in the light of being the greatest Featherweight ever in the UFC. While he can easily claim he already solidified that spot Max Holloway feels he has a lot of work left to do before he can begin to think about that statement. When he defeated the former champion Jose Aldo at UFC 212 he knew he had a long road ahead of him as he wanted to be the face of the division and of his homeland of Hawaii.
Max "Blessed" has quite the resume as he added another huge win to it. Now everybody is asking what is next for the UFC Featherweight Champion? In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, he stated that he is aiming to become the best pound for pound in the world. So does that mean he is eyeing a Champion vs Champion fight in 2019?
Many have already expressed interest in a fight between Max Holloway and the #1 ranked fighter in the Lightweight division Tony "el Cuyuy" Ferguson or a rematch between Conor Mcgregor and Max Holloway either way both of these fights would be huge for "Blessed" on his mission to become the #1 ranked pound for pound fighter in the UFC. Dana White has continued to share his thoughts on Max moving up to Lightweight because he knows the weight cut down featherweight is draining him. It will be nice and interesting to see how 2019 unfolds for Max "Blessed" Holloway.
