'Master of None': Aziz Ansari's Netflix Comedy Addresses Race And Gender Biases

Netflix has been adding a ton of quirky and mind-melding shows and movies lately. Recently, I started watching "Master of None," a series consisting of 10 episodes on Netflix, starring American actor and comedian Aziz Ansari. Ansari is known for his roles as Tom Haverford in "Parks and Recreation," Darryl from "Bob's Burgers," and his stand-up comedy shows, so it's no wonder his comedic timing is spot on.This series gives us insight into the life of a young 30-year-old actor, Dev (Ansari), and his encounters in the acting business as well as his personal journey in New York. Dev's experiences are relatable enough, especially if you are a millennial. Each episode is approximately half an hour, so it is doable for binge-watching in one sitting. It is worth your time and deserves your attention because it brings important topics to light, such as racism in the entertainment industry, modern dating, sexuality, and parenting.

If you needed further convincing to watch this amazing series here are 10 reasons to do so:

1. The technology that's used in the series is parallel to how it's used in reality.

2. The events we experience in real life occur, and we can finally witness as these fictional characters speak our innermost thoughts aloud.

3. The chemistry between all of the characters is so well matched and they bounce off of each others' personalities naturally.

4. It presents a different level of the endearing side of parenting that you will be able to grasp and empathize with.

5. Gender differences are revealed in realistic situations.

6. Aziz's real parents make a cameo, and it's adorable and golden.

7. Dev portrays what it's like to be a minority in the acting business.

8. Children of immigrants will watch as their own experiences are reflected in the Dev's experiences.

9. The modern romance and dating is relatable.

10. The honesty is sincere and you will appreciate it.

"Master of None" has been receiving a large amount of praise for its humorous appeal and has simultaneously been receiving positive responses for its truthfulness. Ansari portrays his character Dev as a genuine guy and professional actor just trying to live life like the rest of us, and now you have the pleasure of experiencing his life in the entire first season on Netflix. It's incredible to have a series such as this one to shine light on the positive and negative of any given situation relative to today's issues, which is greatly appreciated. Don't even think about scrolling past this show because you will regret it if you don't give it a chance. When's the last time you saw a minority lead a series while addressing how to overcome the severity of gender differences, sexuality, stereotypes, and race?

Exactly.

"Master of None" is setting the bar for comedy series alight and will open your mind as well as comfort your soul.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
