On November 14, 2015, Ronda Rousey was supposed to knock out Holly Holm in order to win 13 straight fights. Her fame stems from her wins in the first round either by submission or by knocking out her opponents. From the start, both competitors were extremely confident in their abilities to win this fight. Rousey notoriously declined to touch gloves with her opponent and delivered a few harsh words about Holm on social media. A few days before the fight, Ronda "Rowdy" Rousey was seen on the tonight show with Jimmy Fallon, to describe her expectations of how the match would go.
Rousey told Fallon that Holly Holm was going to try to kick her in the face, "but it's not going to happen that way." Unfortunately, she unintentionally predicted the outcome of the fight. Rousey was powerfully kicked in the face by the 19-time boxing world champion, leading to her knockout and the snap in her undefeated streak.
After the quick knockout, Ronda had a message for her fans on Instagram: "I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support. I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I'm fine. As I have mentioned before, I'm going to take a little bit of time, but I'll be back." If you're a sports fan, then hearing this is great news. Ronda Rousey is an elite athlete in every sense of the word. She is fast, skilled, strong, and a bronze medal winner in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Regardless of all the accolades/skills, Ronda is an A level celebrity and I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to take a few months off of fighting and act in a few feature films.
Although she isn't undefeated or at Floyd "Money" Mayweather's level of boxing, she is still a remarkable athlete who changed the UFC forever. I hardly watch UFC fighting (unless I'm with my Dad), so the fact that I know who Ronda Rousey is without fully paying attention to fighting means that she is on the verge of changing the game. Whether you like her or not, Rousey is a household name, so when a great athlete loses, the effect of the loss is hyperbolized. Ronda Rousey is a living legend and I hope that she continues to have a successful career.
