Comic-Con 2016 just finished up in San Diego, and the studios in attendance spared no expense in showing off what they had to offer in entertainment for coming years. This year, Marvel had promising previews of their superhero properties, and comic fans can expect more excitement from them with their upcoming films and television shows.
Before introducing anything else, Marvel unveiled the re-branding their own logo, this one highlighting the studio's recent successes in film. With their recent previews, those successes only seem to be growing.
Beginning with their Netflix properties, the ever-popular Daredevil was announced to have a third season in the works. With how open-ended Season Two was, hopefully Season Three will have all of the answers fans so desperately need.
As the first season draws t0 a close, Luke Cage finally gets a true trailer. Filled with brutal fighting, ominous enemies, and humorous lines by Luke himself, the trailer promises the show to be anything but drab. As promised, Luke Cage seems to consist of a different tone than Daredevil and Jessica Jones, to the great happiness of the fans. The hero of Harlem comes to Netflix on September 30th.
Rounding out the Defenders lineup, Iron Fist also received a first look, giving viewers a preview of the super-powered martial artist's origin. Not much is shown, but with Marvel's track record, this has the potential to be as great as the others.
Finally The Defenders, the Netflix equivalent of The Avengers, had a minimal, yet powerful teaser. The Defenders consist of the heroes from the four current and upcoming Netflix shows. The teaser doesn't reveal much other than the character of Daredevil asking "The four of you think you can save New York? You can't even save yourselves." Marvel and its fans really enjoy the team-ups, and this one seems to be just as exciting as any other. The Defenders will unite in a four-part event on Netflix in 2017.
Entering the realm of broadcast television, Agents of Shield has announced a major character update for season four. With the tagline "Vengeance comes this fall", the dark hero Ghost Rider will be raising hell for the agents on September 20th of this year.
With another network, the trailer for a new show titled Legion was dropped. It will be about a mutant who believes himself to be schizophrenic, but there is much more to him than he knows. With a very odd and intriguing preview, the show seems to challenge the mind heavily. Legion will begin on FX in early 2017
On to the films. While it is not available on the internet, previews of the long awaited Spider-man: Homecoming were shown to a select few at Comic-Con. When (or if) they are ever shown to the public we can expect great things! The descriptions are very positive from those lucky enough to see it. The banter between the actors is very entertaining and seems to bring the iconic Peter Parker to life very well in the Marvel Comic Universe.
Concept art of his enemy, The Vulture, has been released, and he is as menacing as he should be. Spider-man: Homecoming hits theaters in July 2017.
Casting updates and new logos for Black Panther and Captain Marvel were released, with the most anticipated news being that Brie Larson will play Captain Marvel. Black Panther and Captain Marvel will hit theaters in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Not much has been revealed about the newest Thor movie, but the buzz about it has been intense. Hulk is slated to appear, along with quite a few more heavy hitters. Thor: Ragnarok had a secret conference where some concept art, behind the scenes footage and actual film was shown. They allowed visitors to take pictures of some of the Hulk's armor, which he will wear when he fights Thor in a gladiatorial match.
Thor: Ragnarok comes out in November 2017.
Lastly, a full trailer for Doctor Strange was released and impressed many! This film will be Marvel's first cinematic step into alternate realities and magic. With Inception-like visuals and Benedict Cumberbatch as the lead, Doctor Strange will be an intense and thrilling ride coming to theaters on November 4th, 2016.
That's all for now, DC is next week!
