What an incredible season it has been for the Marshall University Men's Basketball Team, who made it to the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time in 31 years. Throughout the entire tournament, fans were on what felt like a rollercoaster of happiness, which thankfully ended on an all-time high (since I've gone to college there) without any vomiting. Here's my recollection of the Conference USA Tournament from the perspective of a Marshall student... an unforgettable story told as GIFS.
When The Tournament Started and Marshall had the First Round Bye:
Who doesn't love the first-round bye in an insanely small conference tournament?
When Middle Tennesee State lost to Southern Mississippi:
One of the best moments of the tournament that led our Sons of Marshall to sweet victory. I'm sorry to all the MTSU fans out there, but...it was a sweet memory that made me want to run around the living room 20,000 times that night.
When Marshall beat UTSA in the Second Round:
Quality win against the five seeded team. Cool. Go Herd.
When You Realized Marshall just had to Beat Southern Mississippi to get to the Championship Game:
Hopefully, anyway...
When Marshall was Actually Going to the Championship Game After Beating Southern Mississippi:
We have a chance...
When You Found Out the Championship Game was Against Western Kentucky:
The Herd was 0-2 against them during the regular season, so could you blame us?
When the Championship Game Tipped Off:
The thrills. The nerves. The excitement.
When The Herd Went Up by 12 Points with Under 5 Minutes to go in the Second Half:
It was totally an exciting moment to kick butt there for a while.
When Western Kentucky came back within 1 Point with Under 2 Minutes to go in the Second Half:
Definitely the most stressful part of the entire tournament...honestly, probably the entire season.
But...
WHEN THE HERD FINALLY WON FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 31 YEARS:
It was definitely the best feeling in the entire world at that moment for our community, and as a student during the time, it will be a moment I will never forget as long as I live.
GO HERD!
