10 Times Marshall Eriksen Going Through Life Was Relatable To College Students

In This Article:

College is a weird, stressful, and wonderful time. It is the time where we get to explore and find our true selves. The time to learn literally anything and everything that you can about your major. The time to get to know some awesome people who will be your friends for the rest of your life.

Marshall Eriksen, one of the main characters of How I Met Your Mother, knows this life all too well. In fact, two of his closest friends, one being his wife, were those he met in college. What better narrator to explain college life than him. So here we go.

1. Staying home on a Friday night instead of going to that party.

One of the best life skills you can teach yourself in college is to time manage yourself. Learn to when to say no and when to say yes.

2. Doing that one crazy haircut to ease the stress.

Let's face it, at some point in college we all come to relate to 2007 Brittany Spears.

3. Getting excited about any form of free food.

Donuts, pizza, coffee, home cooked meals, you name it, us college kids will go crazy for any type of food that is free.

4. When you have that one rare, blissful day when you can actually catch up on sleep.

It is rare, but it happens. Nothing is better than taking a day to catch up on sleep debt.

5. Finding people to hang due to similar interests.

We've all been there, exchanged numbers with people just because they had the same band tee as you or something of the sort.

6. Seeing deadlines and not feeling like you have enough time to complete them all.

You check your class schedule, your work schedule, your assignments and then cry because you do not know when you will be able to schedule in time to even breathe.

7. But then your professor either cancels class or push back an assignment date.

PSA: The best things to hear as a college student

1. The class is canceled.

2. The exam is pushed back a week.

3. The assignment is pushed back a week.

4. I have provided an alternative worksheet instead of the paper.

8. Seeing random things on campus and wanting an explanation.

Let's face it college campuses are their own habitat for weirdos. Every day there is something happening on campus that is random, weird, or bizarre. Sometimes you can explain it, other times you can't.

9. Waking up and giving yourself a motivational pep-talk in the morning.

College is hard. Sometimes you're burning the candle at ends that do not exist. But you are strong and deserve that nap!

10. Showing off your skills because of your studies.

We have all heard the psychology major go "actually because of....". We have all heard the pre-law major argue because they want to argue. We have all seen accounting majors show off their math solving skills. We have all seen all majors show off their knowledge because after all the pain we go through to learn this stuff, we might as well brag about it.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
