I Won’t Marry A Prince If It Means I Lose My Life

Meghan Markle can keep her castle. I don’t envy her at all.

A couple of days ago I overheard a conversation between two girls. They were discussing the Royal Wedding. It went something like this:

Girl 1: I want to marry a prince, too.

Girl 2: Are you crazy? Why would you?

Girl 1: I wouldn’t have to work or study anymore, my life would be set.

Girl 2: Yeah, and you would be bored to death, too.

Ever since people started talking about this event, I got bored. Yes, prince Harry is hot. Yes, Meghan is lucky she met him through a blind date. But truth is, it is just a wedding. At least that’s what I thought.

After hearing these two girls arguing about how crazy the other was for wanting – or not wanting – to marry someone from Royalty, I decided to investigate a little.

I found out that, in order to marry Harry, Meghan must quit a lot of things. Here are some of them:

Her job

Her career

Her dog

Her social media platforms

Her clothes

Her religion

Selfies

Her right to vote

Going out in public by herself

Now I ask myself, is it really worth it?

Is it worth it to leave almost everything you’ve ever earned, everything you’re used to doing on a regular day, just to be part of a royal family?

Would you leave your dog?

Would you quit your dream job?

Would you sacrifice your personal style just to marry a prince?

I don’t have to think about it twice. I would never give up so many important things in order to be with a man who may, or may not, end up being the love of my life.

As far as I’m concerned, Meghan Markle can keep her prince and her castle, because I’d rather be successful.

I’d rather have a career I love. I’d rather keep my dog. I’d rather be able to go out whenever I can and shop whatever clothes I want to wear.

I couldn’t care less about “being royal”.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
