To The Man I Will Marry

"The best love is the kind that awakens the soul...that plants the fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds." - The Notebook

I've been waiting my whole life to find you, and boy, have I been through hell getting to you. I wanted to give you something to read regularly because you're going to need some help with me. I'm not the easiest person on this Earth. In all honesty, I'm probably one of the most difficult you will come across.

"The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves." - Victor Hugo

There are many characteristics you need to know about me if you have not already figured them out for yourself. I am a lover of nature. I have a passion for photography. I am ambitious. I love adventure. Lastly, I love hard.

"Love is like war: easy to begin but very hard to stop." - H. L. Mencken

First of all, I want to give you a fair warning about who I am. Unfortunately, you will have to endure the punishment of my past. I will be guarded. On some days I will be distant and try to push you away. I will tell you if you have done something wrong, so please do not think when I am this way that you are responsible. After I open my heart to you, I will love you more than you have ever felt loved in your lifetime. So, please, be patient with me, for I am fragile, and need to be refurbished.

"When love is not madness it is not love." - Pedro Calderon de la Barca

There will be times I will need you more than ever. Bad days. On these days I will need to be coddled and loved a little extra. The reasons could differ from anxiety, depression, or both. Despite what the reason may be, I will need you.

"One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: that word is love." - Sophocles

I have many things I want to do before I get married and start a family. I want to travel and see all the world offers. I have a bucket list of places I want to go before I settle down. Some of those trips I may ask for your company, others I may need for myself. Please do not worry while I am away, I will always return to you.

"Your gorgeous chaos was a danger for my beautiful ordinary life, and I knew that. Then suddenly, we became beautifully extraordinary together." - R. M. Drake

One day, if you find enough love for me in your heart, you will propose. This will be one of the greatest days of my life. (My only request, please make sure my mom is there to take pictures for me.) I have dreamed about it since I was a small child. I don't want a huge fancy diamond, so please don't waste your money. The day you marry me will be the second greatest day of my life and the first will be the day I deliver our first baby. Being a mother is one of my grandest desires. (And yes, I already have names picked out.) We will have different ideas about parenting, and we can work through those, but my only wish is that our children will be raised in church and know God. That alone will fill my heart to the brim.

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

Lastly, I will give you a couple tips for future reference. I will ask you often what is wrong and if everything is okay. I will apologize numerous of times for everything, even if it is out of my control or not my wrong-doing. Please don't get angry with me for this, I can not help it and it will most likely never change. I hate mornings but love the peace morning brings. I love my coffee on the creamy side, it has to be sweet. I love to write and express myself through art. I can be lazy and my room is always a mess. I am a family oriented person, therefore make sure you fall in love with my family too. Music speaks for me, so be prepared, I will always have music playing. Always kiss me before you leave me, it reassures and calms my thoughts. I promise you this: No matter how hard I am, I am worth it, you will see.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
