The Truth About Getting Married

Song of Solomon 3:4- "I have found the one whom my soul loves."

On July 9, 2016, I married my very best friend, my first true love, and most of all my life partner. We got married at Trinity United Methodist Church in my hometown and had our reception at my grandfather's farm and my aunt's barn business, The Barn at Cedar Grove. The best part of the day was spending the time celebrating with friends and family. We wanted Christ to be at the center of our wedding and at the end of the day I feel like that was achieved. I felt the presence of God throughout it all.

After the wedding was our honeymoon which we spent on the beautiful island of Oahu in Hawaii. It was easily the most beautiful place I have ever been. There is something so peaceful about an island full of people who just simply enjoy life. It was an incredible place to spend our honeymoon because we were able to just relax and as the locals say "leave all our worries on the mainland." We enjoyed time on Waikiki Beach, trying local food, shopping at local shops, hiking to Manoa Falls through a rainforest, and visiting the well known memorial Pearl Harbor. It was a wonderful time to finally realize the wedding is over and be able to prepare for our trip back to real life.

Now that we are home and settled into our new lives we are starting to get an idea of what true married life is like, and to be honest, so far married life is the best part of my life. I think I used to just assume that it was going to be an extremely hard transition. But when two people work together the transition can be much easier. We have been together for over four years now and so I think that really was a great thing for us because we know the little things that make the other happy and also that get on each others nerves. So to everyone out there, anything is what you make it, but for me I love married life and being married to my best friend.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
