As children, our view of marriage is black and white. Fall in love, get married, live in a house and have kids. The logistical aspects are considered as we grow.
Few months ago, I conducted an instagram poll and the results where just as I expected. Polarized, tied with emotions and all the bells and whistles. my question was "marriage is a business" and you could only answer yes or no. 35% said yes and 65% said no. Not shocked, majority of the people that said yes are actually not married.
I voted yes! my reasoning is:
Similar to a small business, you manage money, make joint decisions and must communicate about pretty much everything involving your household. This is among the many reasons you actually sign a marriage contract. Marriage affects your legal rights in several ways; few examples include:
1. debt
2.property ownership (in Texas, your primary residence needs to have both party names if you are married).
3. inheritance.
Now, the real question is are you willing to be married because the offer is love, understanding and commitment? if so, I wish you well.
I reckon, marriage has to be about faith and dollars! We all need a sense of security which comes from both parties being progressive. In islam, the objective of marriage is to enable us to dwell in peace and tranquillity (refer to Quran); the prerequisites to these are justice, fairness, equity, equality and fulfillment of mutual rights (very similar to a business transcation).
In conclusion, many marriages are built with love, patience and whatever else the parties agree on.
