Do you think you are the world's biggest sports fan? Chances are, compared to this guy you aren't.
If you have paid close attention to some of the world's biggest sporting events, you may have noticed a peculiar man in an orange Marlins jersey. No really, one guy at all of the major sporting events.
Here he is at the College World Series.
At a random FSU vs. Notre Dame game.
At the 2015 World Series.
And the Kentucky Derby.
The NBA Finals.
And many more events.
Who is this guy?
"The Marlins Man" is Laurence Leavy, an attorney from Miami Beach Florida. His prevalence in the sports world began in the 2012 Miami Heat Playoff game where he stuck out like a sore thumb in his orange jersey. He has been showing up at every major event since. From College Bowl games to the Super Bowl itself, this successful sports fan is leaving his mark on the world.
In an interview, Leavy stated that he spends up to 300 days of each year traveling across the country to view sport's most important moments. An addict to the major event's energy and a sports nut, Leavy spends the money to get the best tickets in the house.
Marlins Man has become a bit of a cultural phenomenon. He has become an meme, a Halloween costume and a frequent subject of selfies by surrounding fans.
What can I say? People love a mystery and this man showing up all over the country was bound to pique some interest. Even more, people love other people who chase their passions and Leavy literally chases his all across the country.
More power to you, Marlins dude. If you have the flexibility and financial stability in your life to fork over thousands of dollars to sit courtside, behind the ump and at the finish line, do it. I will keep an eye out for you at this years World Series. If you want a seat at a TCU game, let me know. I'll see what I can do.
