There are many tricks to having a great sophomore year. Here are some ways to make your sophomore year kick butt!
1. Put yourself out there
Join a new club, activity, sport, et cetera that you haven’t joined before.
Don’t cower behind your old activities and habits. Be confident and daring and join something new!
2. Make even more new friends
With a new school year, there will be transfer students, Florence-program students and even new freshman. Give these new people a chance! Go out to lunch with someone from your class; get a fresh new perspective on life.
#Nonewfriends should not be trending. Make your squad the best it can be and open up yourself to new people. Don’t hide behind your freshmen friends; learn to expand your horizons.
3. Get into good study habits
With two semesters under our belts, we have experience to say that good study habits make a big difference in college. So, study in advance, study with a new buddy, study instead of one week of Tower Tuesday, and get those A’s rolling in.
Don’t complete your paper two hours before Thirsty Thursday when it’s due Friday! Try not to get in the habit of procrastinating because you’re not as used to school as you were last semester. Make sophomore year a year of good grades and good habits!
4. Find something you love
With major and minor declaration around the corner, sophomore year is about zeroing in on your passion. It’s about finding that one subject that you love and you know you want to pursue for your remaining two years here at Marist. Talk to your professors; get to know the faculty because these professors can change your course of action, as you know it.
5. Don't procrastinate choosing a major
Try not to leave your declarations to the last week of second semester. Be contemplative about your major; don’t be complacent with a single subject. But be realistic; understand that you have a small time frame.
6. Have as much fun as possible.
Sophomore year isn’t all work and no play. We are still underclassmen, and there is plenty of room for fun! Go out with your friends, appreciate the friends you’ve made and you have. Laugh as often as you can, smile big and wide because we only have one college experience, and let’s make it the best as possible. It’s cliché to say, but YOLO, b*tches. You only have one life, so don’t be a stick in the mud and have fun!
7. Appreciate every bit of your sophomore year
Next year, we’ll all either be abroad or back at Marist. You may or may not see all your friends 100 percent of the time, so be appreciative of the time you have together this year.
Let’s make this year unforgettable, Marist College!
