I absolutely love organizing and feeling like my belongings and life are put together. I've Marie Kondo'd my room twice now and here are some things I've learned by going through the process.
Just like anything else, not every process works for everyone. This may not work for you or you may need to adjust it for it to work better for you, but here is what worked for me!
Really do take everything out and put it in one place
Seeing is believing and there's nothing like seeing the 27 pairs of plain black leggings you have to really show you you have a problem.
That's an exaggeration, I didn't have that many pairs of black leggings, but I did have a lot of clothing I just wasn't wearing and needed to get rid of!
Some people like to break down their clothing by item, like all T-shirts, all sweatpants, etc. but I found it most useful and productive to just take out all my clothes at once and put them on my bed and sort them from there.
Seeing how much you have, and what items you just never gravitate towards, even items with the tags still on them, can be quite shocking and disappointing, but at the end of the day the sweater you bought two years ago and still haven't worn will definitely be better off in someone else's possession.
Don't be ashamed to take time to make a decision on an item
Don't feel pressured to make snap decisions if you really aren't sure whether you want to keep an item or not. Something I found helpful for items I was not sure of was to put them all in a bin and store them away for a week and then look at them again and make the decision. This way I wasn't stressed out about making a decision every time I saw a piece of clothing and I could reflect and reconsider the level of importance these things had in my life.
