Dear Maren Morris,

Welcome to my Spotify playlists. Welcome to my late night car ride concerts. Welcome to the world. I might be a little biased but I do think that you are killing it in every single genre of music right now. With the release of "Hero," your first album, I was sucked in and fell in love with many lyrics.

Maren Morris' HERO Album Instagram @marenmorris

I had that "high-school sweetheart" relationship for the majority of my life. Six long years that were a rollercoaster. There were so many highs and so many lows. There were laughs, cries, and so many memories. If you would have asked me two years ago if I would be the person I am today, I would have laughed and shrugged your comment off. I was in a total state of denial. I was in love and those occasional "lies" and fights, ended ugly and quickly.

But this story is not about him, in fact, it has nothing to do with him. For the very first time in those six years, it became about me. I no longer had to worry about anything but myself. When I began recovering and trying to become myself again, you released an album that I do truly believe can get any girl through that tough breakup.

Us girls, we are supposed to be perfect and we are supposed to be strong, but what happens when we feel like our world is falling apart? It's like you get all the life sucked out of you in one simple day. We love with our arms wide open and do not expect anything in return, until that becomes too much to handle and our hearts end up split into two.

Ladies, I know most of you can relate to this very hurt. We all have our fairytales and our nightmares. If you have not, you are so lucky. I hope you live a life without a heartbreak. Trust me, you will never be the same.

So maybe it was because I got my heartbroken around the same time you did Maren. Maybe I realized I had become a character that I did not even recognize anymore. I had lost my independence, my thrive to succeed in life. I lost a boy who never even wanted me to begin with. The initial shock at first was completely mind-blowing. However, I downloaded each song of your album and trust me, your lyrics have saved me many nights.

I do not know your story.

I do not know what made you put a pencil to paper and begin writing about what your heart was saying, but thank you.

I know that in all 14 songs, you killed it. The story you told within those lyrics made me realize more than anyone could ever write in a book or send me a text message about.

Maren Morris, you are what I wish all women would be. You are strong, beautiful, wise, and talented. You poured your heart out and sang it for the whole world to see. You were vulnerable, independent, but what I saw most in you was the strength you continuously had. I can not even begin to tell you how courageous and brave you were to let your voice be heard by the entire world. You are a complete inspiration to women across the globe that know that deep, deep heartache. You are the voice that encourages us to speak up, to never count on a man for happiness, and to always look your best.

(I mean come on, y'all, have you seen how stinking beautiful she is???)

So, thank you. Ladies, go and play Maren Morris' album. Fall in love with the music that has turned my life around. Lyrics that taught me there's a lot more out there in the world for us than a silly boy. I promise I am tougher because of you. I survived. May all women aspire to be as tough and protective of their hearts as you are.

Hit up Spotify now! "Hero" is one of the best albums out right now in country music. I do not think you will be disappointed. This young star is going places for sure. Thank you, Maren, for inspiring me that there is so much more in the world than a boy. Your album has given me the strength and courage to fight. I did fight, and I ended up on the better side. Maybe one day I'll be as cool as you, but for now, a girl can only dream, right?

Sincerely,

P.S. Baton Rouge would love to have you at any time... so come on!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
