2016 has been a crazy year for me. Even though there are some ups during this year, it was mostly down for me. Whenever I feel sad or stressed out, I open my Spotify app on my phone and just play music to relieve some tension. Luckily for me, 2016 has given me numerous songs to jam out to when I feel down. The list below countdowns my top 10 song of this past year.

Top 10 Songs of 2016

10. Closer by The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey

This songs was everywhere! I loved how The Chainsmokers incorporated EDM with a break-up song. The addition of Halsey made this song gut wrenching for me as they sing a past romance of what could have been. Tears galore.

9. Work by Rihanna ft. Drake

Work work work. Bad girl RiRi and Drizzy Drake sang and rap this island tune that made people confused at first by its lyrics but, eventually, got over the confusion and just "Dutty Wine" to the song.

8. One Dance by Drake ft. Wizkid and Kyla

Summer of 2016 was dominated by this song. Everyone in the world just wanted to dance with that special someone, either in the club or in the middle of their living room.

7. I Took a Pill in Ibiza by Mike Posner

Originally a ballad, Mike Posner wrote this song about taking a random pill while partying with a popular music producer on an island of the coast of Spain. See remixed the song to make it more up-tempo. Eventually, this sad ballad became an international EDM hit. Funny how a remix can change everything.

6. Into You by Ariana Grande

This EDM/dance-pop hit from Ms. Dangerous Woman herself almost made me want to run away to a desert motel while using a motorcycle as my mode of transportation. Unfortunately, I would need money and time to do that but I'll just let Ariana do that herself.

5. Wild Things by Alessia Cara

Any rebels on here? Alessia sang this liberating song about self-empowerment and being yourself without listening to naysayers and haters. I definitely need to find my inner wild thing and not afraid to be myself.

4. Work from Home by Fifth Harmony

Another "work" inspired song on this list. The girls of Fifth Harmony taught me a lesson on sexy telecommunicating. If only I can find construction workers as hot as those shown on the video...

3. Ride by Twenty One Pilots

This song had a long ride (pun intended) to becoming a hit for this alternative band. I was jamming to this song every time I drove to Jacksonville or even when while I was stuck in traffic. This is a must for every road trip, especially for long trips.

2. Let Me Love You by DJ Snake ft. Justin Bieber

I personally do not like Justin Bieber because of this crazy antics but his collaboration with DJ Snake made me like The Biebs... but just vocally. I love the EDM beats that Mr. Snake produced and Bieber's vocals were spot on in this song. The music video was very odd but I only love it because of the song.

1. Cheap Thrills by Sia. ft Sean Paul

What does everyone love? CHEAP THRILLS! Sia and Sean Paul worked together to create this song, originally written for Rihanna, about having fun on Friday and Saturday nights. This is a perfect pre-game song or just to make your "boring" weekend nights feel fun.

Here is the link to the Spotify playlist of these songs.

What are your favorite 2016 songs? Are some of them on this list? Did I miss your favorites? Let me know!

two women enjoying confetti

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
