A College Student's Guide Through the Women's March on Washington

Proud to be An American
Women's March D.C

This past weekend hundreds and thousands of women and men gathered to address sexual, racial, and other non-acceptable discriminatory remarks made by Donald Trump. As a college student, it was a pivoting moment in my college career, that allowed me to exercise my first amendment rights while also leaving a mark in history. A seven hour cramped bus ride was classified as fun and riveting; the energy on the bus was contagious women were vocal and ready to allow their voices to be heard. I took my place in the back among-st friends and got ready for the movement. once we arrived we were met with an overload of people streaming into the D.c bus area. I could already tell that this movement was going to be a serious one.

As we maneuvered our way throughout the bus station and into the march. Once we arrived were met with religious extremist who flaunted signs in front our faces reading" God Saves Souls" "pray now and you may be forgiven". This was quite amusing and got us even more riled p for the march. Once in the center of town I saw an array of people; Black people,Chicano people, Native people , White people, old people, young people, women, men, Tran-sexual, drag. You name it it was there!

It was beautiful to see Americans come together for the cause of providing rights for all people, people showed mutual respect, love , compassion and even courage all throughout the march. there were no arrest, and safety was always at the for-front of the conversation. The speakers were serious and intolerant of justice, while the people showed their disgust with a variety of signs that addressed all issues from; Native reserves being destroyed, blacks being profiled and killed, LGBTIA+ community rights, and women being sexual assualted. There was solidarity and understanding for all concerns and In those moments I was proud to call myself an American.

I found hope in that march, hope that my companions in the black community have felt for a long time. I felt strength and power knowing that my future would not be determined by the talking orange; instead, it would be determined by me. america was a self-perpetuating country the ideal of the American dream is real and we, the people, host the power even in difficulty situation and under impossible leadership, we we will and always shall prevail. The march was not just for women's rights it was to remind and any opposing forces who really has the power, us.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
