Words cannot convey how thrilled I am to be marching in such an honorable event with thousands of people.
It is going to be a long weekend of driving from Michigan to Washington D.C. and then back to Michigan, but this is something that I know I will cherish forever. And it is truly what I need right now: to be surrounded by people like myself who do not and will not tolerate hate in our country and in our world. It is a nation's population showing that they do not have a tolerance for intolerance, and I know when these marches take place across the country that our voices will be amplified and our mark on history will be left. You do not have to travel all the way to D.C. to partake in this historical moment.
I was one of the many people who was devastated by the result of the 2016 Presidential Election, and while it is perfectly fine to grieve this loss, it is also time to use the devastation as fuel for action. Action for those who have been treated in an inhumane manner since the birth of this nation. Action for those who fear for their lives as a result of this election. Action for those who are voiceless in this country.
I am not claiming their struggles as my own, but using my privilege to make their struggles heard.
I am marching for them.
