I have never been to a march before; I was excited when my friends asked me to join the Women's March last weekend on January 20, 2018. Some of us might not know what Women's March missions are or how it originally comes from.
Here is a quick glance what it is about:
The Women's March, according to, is “a worldwide protest on January 20, 2017, to advocate legislation and policies regarding human rights and other issues, including women's rights, immigration reform, healthcare reform, reproductive rights, the natural environment, LGBT rights, racial equality, freedom of religion, and workers' rights. Most of the rallies were aimed at Donald Trump, immediately following his inauguration as largely due to statements that he had made and positions that he had taken which were regarded by many as anti-women or otherwise offensive. It was the largest single-day protest in U.S. history."
Why I march for:
1. Women's rights matter
I don't think any men would be here if it is not because of their mother. It is all about respecting one another.
2. Your gender should not justify your wrongful behavior
Rape is still rape. It does not make rape, assault, and murder okay. Even the kid knows.
3. I believe in reproductive freedom
What if the mother has to undergo an abortion for their own well-being? I think abortion for health reason should be okay.
4. Those suffering in silence
I could feel how empowering the march was. It felt as if everybody was uniting. There was no division between race, religion, and gender. It was all about equality. There were so many incredible and artistic posters at the march which I think that made the sense of empowerment even much stronger. The enthusiasm was incredibly contagious as if I could feel every each person has their unique magnetic power to empower other people. At the very least, I march because I am proud to be a Muslim and a woman of color.
