March Madness in Layman's Terms

We are now in the dead heat of the Spring semester, and by that I mean a majority of students have made their way to the beach- or as Mr. Bean says in his only line of the entire Mr. Bean's Holiday movie... "The Beach."

If any of y'all are like me then you will probably look like this while trying to catch some rays. However, there is another option as to how you can spend your Spring Break, and well, the rest March. Every year there is this event that happens in college basketball, and it goes by "March Madness." Now, before we get into what teams will be playing in the tournament there is one thing that every person that "says" they know everything about sports needs to know... March means Madness... so basically every game is like Sparta.

Teams are fighting for the National Championship, and let's be real they want the bragging rights and the Blue Mountain State style party a after they bring home the trophy. Yeah parties happen after big wins- if you haven't noticed... just watch the videos of Boston after any win... People are literally hanging from light poles over flooded streets of rioters.

The thing about the Boston riots? They are adults. Bringing home the National Championship in Basketball is an experience that not everyone gets to participate in. Reason for this? There are like five basketball teams that seem to cycle through the championships. They basically take turns. These teams include, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, and Kansas. So if you go to a school that is not one of these five (with the exception of Florida, Connecticut, and Louisville)... you are basically out of luck.

This year the teams the two teams that have the best shot at winning the tournament- in my opinion- are Kentucky and Duke. I am a Duke fan, so I might be a little biased, but they are the best. However, it is March and literally anything can happen. Cinderella teams come and go, and everyone loves an underdog winning against a top team. Especially if your friends really like a certain team and this team that nobody has ever heard of wins... Classic reaction. Not only do people put loads of time and money into their brackets, but the odds of getting it correct are very slim- I know what you're thinking, "I am pretty lucky." No, you're not.

In conclusion, March is basically "slack-off" month (Sorry mom), and there should be a month long break due to all of the appointments I have with my DVR. This year my goal is to not criticize people who have really terrible brackets, because they might win the Bracket Challenge. With that being said, anything can happen, dream no little dreams, and the tortoise beat the hare.

We Heart It

Over the past decade, television has undergone a very crucial transition: the incorporation of female lead characters. Since it's a known fact that girls actually do run the world (Beyonce said so herself), it's time for the leading ladies of the small screen to get some credit. Without these characters, women would still be sitting in the background of our favorite shows. These women are not only trailblazers for female empowerment, but role models for women worldwide. With that, here are 15 of the smartest, sassiest ladies gracing our screens that remind us that women do, indeed, rule:
