March 28th, 2018, will be remembered as a monumental day in American history. On this day, the largest student-led protest of all time, March For Our Lives, swept the country by storm.
This event was sparked by the massacre of seventeen high school students and faculty at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Although school shootings have been a highly debated issue in America for several years, this shooting has sparked more controversy and discussion than any other and is the final straw for many Americans.
Due to the rise of social media and the prominence of mainstream news outlets, the voices of students are echoing in Americans' ears. It is almost impossible to ignore the words of the protesters and survivors.
And that's a good thing.
Students Cameron Kasky, Emma González, David Hogg, Alex Wind, and many other Marjory Stoneman Douglas survivors are responsible for organizing March For Our Lives and the "Never Again" movement.
Celebrities such as Paul McCartney, Miley Cyrus, Zendaya, George Clooney, and many more donated to and attended marches around the country. Gucci reportedly donated $500,000 to the campaign.
Although March For Our Lives was organized by students and for students, it was made possible due to corporate support. Thousands of celebrities, citizens, and survivors marched all day long in support of those who couldn't.
Guns are a touchy subject in America, which is why it needs to be discussed right now. No matter where you politically stand or what you believe, it is important to recognize the significance of the March For Our Lives movement.
This is history.
Each day we live through American history, and we must pay attention to politics, activism, and change. It is okay to formulate opinions that others might not agree with.
It is okay to change your mind.
It is not okay to ignore the current state of the country.
