As this academic year winds down, it's come time for many people, including myself, to say goodbye to the wonderful city of Philadelphia for the summer. Philadelphia is filled with some pretty cool areas, and one of the coolest has to be the neighborhood of Manayunk. This year, I made countless memories here, and I'm sure many other people can relate to this.
Manayunk is a place that's basically perfection to live out your college years in. Let's be honest, now. A lot of the houses are basically falling over, and every other bar is a complete dive. This neighborhood might not be the place to raise a family, but most twenty-somethings that frequent Manayunk don't care about this. There's always at least something to do after the sun goes down; the nightlife truly stands without compare. Main Street is the place to be, and the streets branching off are always buzzing with activity. Words really can't do the ambiance justice.
The people in Manayunk, however, truly make this neighborhood what it is. Frequent visitors can attest that Manayunk residents really embody the motto of Philadelphia: "The city of brotherly love." Ok, yeah, there's some local weirdos that try to sell you junk they find and yell at you when you're walking by. But who cares. Together, with the friendly individuals, they give this neighborhood the character it's known for. The bartenders and neighbors are some of the coolest people you'll ever meet; it really is an ideal place to live and hang out.
Thank you, Manayunk, for being a gem of Northwest Philadelphia. You've provided me with so many great memories, and just as many stories that I'm sure I'll be retelling for years. No matter how much time goes by, and regardless of who moves in and or out, Manayunk will definitely live on as a hotspot for college kids. I'm sad to leave this year, but there's no doubt I'll be back very soon.
