Thanks To The Manager Who Taught Me So Much

To the manager who has changed my life,

Sometimes we meet people in our life that are meant to change it in some way or another. We never really know the purpose when we meet them; we simply know that they were put into our lives for one reason or another. While there are many people put into our lives to teach us a hard lesson, there are a handful put into our lives to teach us the blessings. That’s what you were.

You were different. There was something very special about you, and I’m not sure I can put into words just what that special quality was. You taught me so much within my job and outside of it. You became a friend and family to me all wrapped into one. It’s sometimes hard to meet a person who you can trust with anything in the entire world, but with you that was never a problem.

You showed me what it was like to be loved from someone you chose as family. You taught me what it looked like to have someone who supported you in every single thing that you did and to never doubt you in any way. It might not have always been work-related, but you always had my back and that’s something truly wonderful.

To round that off, you were always just as (OK, maybe a little less) sassy as me and welcomed my sass. You were always one of the first people to give me sass back and make the work day go by in a jiff. I know that when I opened up with you I could count on you to deal with the hard customers for the first hour (OK, two) until I was officially awake, because I was far from a morning person. But once I was awake, it was time for dancing around.

It’s going to be so crazy to come back and not have my sidekick in the store. You were always the first person I came to when I had any kind of problem that needed to be solved or just needed a good laugh (and I have a feeling that senior year, I’ll be needing a lot of them to ease the stress). Who else would tell me that I can’t have friends at work? Or make me try a Cadbury egg for the first time in my life?

What I do know is that you might not be in the store anymore, but what I’ve learned from you will be. You’ve taught me how to be a better person and how to be confident in the work that I do. You’ve shown me what it’s like to do a good job and that hard work really does pay off. You’ve taught me things that I don’t think I’d know had I not worked with you for the time that I have. I’ve been able to wow the socks off a few people already with the lessons you’ve taught me, and I can’t wait to wow the socks off a few more.

It takes a special kind of person to manage a staff in the way that you’ve done, and believe me when I say that you’ve earned the respect of every employee in that store, which can be hard to do. I’ve never heard a bad thing about you and I know that everyone loved working with you, because you made the store environment one worth being at. So continue to touch the lives of those you cross paths with. Show them the wonderful person that you are, which I’m sure won’t take long.

Thank you for everything you’ve taught me, and for being my friend and a part of my family. Thank you for always dancing through the store with me and always giving me back the sass that I gave you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
